As the largest democracy in the world, we are proud of the large election machinery that conducts elections in a precise, fair and free manner. Yet as all of us, involved in the conduct of election now, this huge exercise requires minute planning, physical and mental endurance, exacting standards of coordination and an extremely dedicated team. In the picturesque Jalpaiguri District, we are confident of all the above being in place and present a detailed picture of our Poll Preparedness through this document
There are 2 (two) Parliamentary Constituencies in Jalpaiguri District viz. 2 – Alipurduar (ST) P.C. and 3 – Jalpaiguri (SC) P.C. It is worthwhile to take note of the fact that out of seven A.C.s of 2 – Alipurduars (ST) P.C., one A.C. viz. 9 – Tufanganj A.C. and out of seven A.C.s of 3 – Jalpaiguri (SC) P.C., one A.C. viz. 1 – Mekhliganj (SC) A.C. are in Cooch-Behar District. Conducting of such a huge exercise with only one polling day, covering 2127 Polling Stations and having an electorate of 21,49,437 and 12 Assembly Segments in a free, fair and peaceful manner, is a special and memorable experience to one and all, who are connected with this elections.

In this information booklet, we have tried to present all relevant information in connection with election in a precise manner for it to become user-friendly. We have also rendered serious efforts to incorporate the other related activities concisely. I hope this document will be useful to all officers, staff and all concerned engaged in the management of election.
I would like to record my sincere thanks to Shri. N. G. Hira, WBCS (Exe). Additional District Magistrate (General), Shri Asim Kr. Biswas, WBCS (Exe), Officer-in-Charge, Election Section, Shri Samir Das, WBCS (Exe), and Shri Ashis Baran Paul, System Manager who have conceptualized this information booklet and Shri Abhijit Kundu, Data Entry Operator and Shri Dhiman Karmakar, Data Entry Operator who have processed the entire matter on the computer, though it is not possible to name every officer and staff member, I would also like to record my appreciation of the services of all the Officers and Staff of Jalpaiguri District in completing this very important duty of the administration
